How it works

A cleaner beach, lane by lane.

Scout-Bot is a semi-autonomous robot that uses intelligent perception to find targeted waste and collect it selectively, while leaving the natural beach as it is.

How a beach gets cleaned

Scroll through the five stages, or select one. The view on the right follows along.

  1. 1Plan

    Plan the zone

The stretch of beach to clean is marked out and divided into lanes. The robot plans its path through them.

  2. 2Drive

    Drive lane by lane

Scout-Bot follows its lanes across the sand on a tracked platform designed for soft ground, with an operator supervising.

  3. 3Detect

    Look before it acts

Intelligent perception assesses every object ahead and tells targeted waste apart from shells, seaweed and stones.

  4. 4Collect

    Collect selectively

Only targeted waste goes into the collection module. Natural material is left exactly where it was.

  5. 5Report

    Return and report

When the zone is done, the robot heads back to its dock and the run is logged: where it went and what it collected.

What it collects. What it leaves.

Selective cleaning means the beach keeps the things that belong to it.

  • Bottle caps
  • Food wrappers
  • Plastic bags
  • Straws
  • Net fragments
